Consolidation Class' for puppy school graduates [After 'puppy school', what next?]
Why do some puppy school graduates end up as giveaways in the weekend paper or on a one way trip to the pound? After puppy school your puppy certainly needs ongoing assistance as he enters puberty and adolescence – with all its associated teenage challenges. Without it, even puppies that excelled at puppy school can quickly de-rail.
A good puppy school is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to your puppy behaving appropriately for the rest of his/her life. If he is to be a pleasure to own, safe and well-mannered around other dogs & other people, the education of puppies should be like that of children. The learning stages should progressively move in easy steps from kindergarten to primary and then secondary schools.
4-6 month old puppies are not yet ready for an 'obedience' club which, especially if forceful methods are used, can be harmful. Harsh handling often suppresses experimentation and initiative.
Our five-week 'consolidation of basics class' is designed as a next step for owners and puppies that have been to C.L.E.A.R puppy school and/or already understand training with a marker signal (as in dolphin training). IF spaces are available other puppy school graduates are welcome, especially if they have had an in-home catch–up lesson first.
The Puppy Two (consolidation of basics for puppy school graduates) courses consist of:
- Small group classes.
- Instruction by well qualified, experienced and friendly trainers with good communication skills and a thorough knowledge of the various stages of canine physical & emotional development.
- The four easy steps to proper 'heeling' - starting with 'follow me' off lead.
- The five progressive steps to rapid & reliable 'comes' + an emergency recall.
- Games, including nose work, designed to make training easy & fun for both owner & puppy.
